The Domain Name
The Domain name is the actual name of your site. For example ‘mediamall.ca‘ or ‘advertisinginottawa.com‘, or even ‘ebay.com‘ or ‘amazon.ca‘. These are all just names.
They were created because the real address for finding your website is a lot more difficult to remember. For example, websites have actual addresses like http://23.452.76.98/~sitename. Not easy, huh? So instead the domain name system was created so all you have to remember is ‘mediamall.ca‘ instead of the numbers.
The Hosting
Just like your house, you need to have an address to put all your stuff and to go home to at night (if you go home at night). The domain name helps point to it, but the actual site is located on a computer somewhere (ours are in Toronto). When we build your new site, there are pages, pictures, text and various other things that all need to be saved on a computer that’s accessible by the internet. That’s hosting. So we can get your domain name registered and all your hosting done at the same time that we build your site, all you have to do is let us know you need it!
