R.K. Porter general contracting was established in 1990. Starting with commercial and industrial construction, the company has built countless numbers of custom homes and cottages throughout Ontario’s cities and cottage country.
In 2005, R.K. Porter began doing restaurant and food service renovations, successfully completing more than 20 food service locations from Cornwall to Dryden in a year and continuing. In addition, they have completed construction of Aqua Terra Exuma, a five-bedroom villa located on Exuma Island in the Bahamas.
The Challenge
As R.K. Porter expanded the types and complexity of projects, so did the number of contractors and vendors. Quick and easy access to project documents for selected companies directly on the website was a critical element. This in turn required a smoother user experience for both vendors and potential clients.
File Sharing & Management
A crucial component of the new website was a way for staff to manage a large number of files on the website itself such as RFPs, construction details, bid requirements, etc. A familiar folder structure was used to make it easy for staff to manage all of the files.
These documents are also made available to companies and contractors on a secure section of the website. Using the same folder structure, anyone with a phone is able to easily find and open various project files.
Website Design & Development
The website goal was to demonstrate the quality of work that RK Porter provides their clients. Focusing on a mobile first design, website speed and improving website SEO, the new website is a cornerstone of the company's presence.
The Results
The website and file sharing system has been running since 2018 and the company staff continue to conveniently manage the website content and project documents internally.
